Sweet Orange essential oil has a familiar, bright, citrusy fragrance, and a lovely yellow-orange color. A favorite in many citrus scent blends, it is considered a top note for blending purposes.

Sweet Orange oil contains up to 90% limonene, a pleasant-smelling terpene with solvent properties that is used in many cleaning products. This essential oil has powerful antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and antimicrobial effects, as well as a cheerful, uplifting influence on mood. A 2017 clinical study found that inhalation of Sweet Orange essential oil caused significant reductions in the experience of pain in patients admitted to a hospital with bone fractures.

Our essential oils are sold in amber glass bottles with a dropper orifice for drop-by-drop administration. Do not ingest essential oils unless under the guidance of a licensed health care practitioner or experienced aromatherapist. Essential oils should always be diluted in a carrier oil before being applied to the skin. (Some examples of carrier oils: Jojoba, Sunflower, Grapeseed, Rosehip Seed, Castor, and Avocado; gently liquified Coconut Oil, Shea, or Cocoa Butter can also work for creating thicker body care products.) Always test the diluted essential oil on a small patch of skin before applying more widely.

Maximum recommended dilution for adults topical use: 5% (five drops per teaspoon of carrier oil). Like other essential oils derived from citrus peels, Sweet Orange has a relatively short shelf life and is best stored in your fridge.
