Spotlight on Open Air Tea

Our Certified Organic Open Air Tea is one of Emily’s original blends, designed to help people with chronic lung issues breathe more easily.

Cold dry air is one of the most common triggers for aggravating the symptoms of COPD (chronic bronchitis or emphysema), asthma, and related conditions. The onset of chilly weather signals trouble for many who are affected—an estimated 10% of the US population. Colds and flus, stormy weather, extreme day/night temperature changes, and winter air pollution episodes can all impact people with chronic lung conditions. Managing flareups during the colder seasons is a vital concern for millions!

Certified Organic Open Air Tea combines five certified organic herbs, traditionally used for treating the lungs:

  • Organic Coltsfoot (featured in photo above), long used by European and Asian herbalists as an expectorant, demulcent, and antitussive
  • Organic Mullein Leaf, another classic lung herb, valued for its demulcent and astringent actions, reducing pain and inflammation, calming spasms, antiseptic, and mildly sedative
  • Organic Rosemary Leaf, an herb with antioxidant benefits for the entire body, boosting the immune system, antimicrobial, antispasmodic, promoting circulation, and enhancing cognition and mood
  • Organic Rosehips, well known as a nutritious source of vitamins and bioflavonoids, as well as an aid to clearing infections—beloved as food and medicine since ancient times
  • Organic Licorice Root, a sweet and versatile element in so many formulas, demulcent, expectorant, and tonifying
Quick definitions:
Antitussive  herbs relieve coughing.
Demulcent  herbs soothe inflammation by forming a protective film over inflamed mucous membranes.
Expectorants  help to clear mucus from the lungs.

Both dry coughing and phlegm buildup are typical of lung problems. So herbs that help you cope with these symptoms are natural allies for managing both acute and chronic respiratory conditions. And taking herbs in the form of tea has the additional benefit of hydrating your system.

Be prepared for winter's ups and downs—be sure to keep Em's Certified Organic Open Air Tea on hand!
