California Poppy is the state flower of—you guessed it—California. It is a perennial or annual plant native to the US West Coast states, and found in the wild in Nevada, Arizona, and New Mexico, as well as northern Baja California and Sonora in Mexico. It has been introduced into similar climatic zones in Australia, South Africa, Chile, and Argentina. The plant grows in abundance on roadsides and has a bright orange, cheerful flower that is easily identified.
