INDIA. Patchouli (Pogostemon cablin) Essential Oil, Steam Distilled
Patchouli essential oil has a fragrance described as sweet, musky and spicy. It is considered a base note for blending purposes. Derived from a tropical plant in the mint family, it has long been used in perfumes and incense.
Traditional uses of Patchouli EO include uplifting mood and relieving depression, soothing inflammation, improving blood circulation, beautifying the skin and hair, and enhancing libido. Like several other essential oils, it has demonstrated efficacy as an insect repellent. Studies also show its sedative effects, antifungal action, and antimicrobial activity against acne bacteria. Patchouli alcohol, one of its components, has documented neuroprotective, anti-influenza, anti-inflammatory, and anti-cancer properties.
Our essential oils are sold in amber glass bottles with a dropper orifice for drop-by-drop administration. Do not ingest essential oils unless under the guidance of a licensed health care practitioner or experienced aromatherapist. Essential oils should always be diluted in a carrier oil before being applied to the skin. (Some examples of carrier oils: Jojoba, Sunflower, Grapeseed, Rosehip Seed, Castor, and Avocado; gently liquified Coconut Oil, Shea, or Cocoa Butter can also work for creating thicker body care products.) Always test the diluted essential oil on a small patch of skin before applying more widely.
Maximum recommended dilution for adults topical use: 10% (ten drops per teaspoon of carrier oil).
