Catnip (Nepeta cataria) Essential Oil

Description

CANADA. Catnip (Nepeta cataria) Essential Oil, Steam Distilled

Catnip is part of the amazing Mint family (Lamiaceae) and its essential oil has a slightly minty, herbaceous scent. Aromatically it is considered a middle note for blending.

Catnip essential oil is absolutely my favorite go-to oil for repelling insects and mosquitoes. It seems to be more effective than DEET as a mosquito repellant, an all natural alternative to harmful poisons and chemicals. Catnip has many beneficial properties including antimicrobial and antioxidant activity, and produces a calming effect on the nervous system.

We also have Catnip herb available, grown in the Pacific Northwest, which makes a lovely addition to teas, especially for children, to help support and calm the nervous system. It can be a helpful ally with ADHD and ADD symptoms. (Note: the herb is great for cats, but please don't expose them to Catnip essential oil!)

Our essential oils are sold in amber glass bottles with a dropper orifice for drop-by-drop administration. Do not ingest essential oils unless under the guidance of a licensed health care practitioner or experienced aromatherapist. Essential oils should always be diluted in a carrier oil before being applied to the skin. (Some examples of carrier oils: Jojoba, Sunflower, Grapeseed, Rosehip Seed, Castor, and Avocado; gently liquified Coconut Oil, Shea, or Cocoa Butter can also work for creating thicker body care products.) Always test the diluted essential oil on a small patch of skin before applying more widely.

Maximum recommended dilution for adults: 3% (three drops per teaspoon of carrier oil). Catnip essential oil can be a skin sensitizer for some people; use in moderation, and don't use in baths.
