USA. California Poppy (Eschscholzia californica), Leaves, Stems, and Flowers, Cut and Sifted, Certified Organic
This herb is a popular nerve tonic and is reputed to have a calming effect. Studies show that it has a sedative and can also have an anti-anxiety effect. One study demonstrated a mild analgesic (pain relieving) effect on peripheral nerves, and no toxicity issues when taken as a tea.
This herb is often used in teas and in combination with other nervines (herbs that help the nervous system), such as Passionflower (Passiflora incarnata) or Skullcap (Scutellaria lateriflora). Deborah Francis RN, ND, writes that California Poppy “is well indicated when what is needed is to relax into the moment, and flow, rather than resist.”
California Poppy is the state flower of—you guessed it—California. This plant grows in abundance on roadsides and has a bright orange, cheerful flower that is easily identified.
